In the late 16th century the Italian musician
Aurelio Virgiliano compiled a collection of virtuoso musical pieces and
technical instructions that he titled "Il Dolcimelo," which could refer to
both a sweet apple tree (pear tree) and a sweet melody. Adapting that
ambiguous concept as its motto: "Fruits of Sweet Melody," Editions
Dolcimelo specializes in publishing transcriptions of solo and ensemble
music from the Renaissance and Baroque for the recorder, viols, and other early
instruments.
Our Ensemble
series includes Italian
Canzoni
and transcriptions of keyboard and vocal music by
Sweelinck
and his contemporaries in editions for recorder ensemble and viol consorts. The
Solo Recorder
series currently features challenging works for unaccompanied alto recorder
by J. S.
Bach and
Rousseau/Vivaldi.
All Editions Dolcimelo publications
include background and editorial notes and are printed on high-quality, acid
free papers.
